Default Used Guitar Market

Am I wrong, or has the used guitar market
really slowed just in the last few weeks?
I mostly watch old Yamahas on Ebay that typically
sell for a few 100. I also watch some Larrivees and other
makes in that price range. Been watching since January
and in all that time every single guitar (and some other
instruments) that I watched was bid up at the end to
a pretty high price. Really no great bargains.
Until a few weeks ago. Since then I've seen plenty
of gits that don't get bid up at the end at all and sell
for about 2/3 of what the same guitars were selling for before.
Or don't meet the reserve etc.
If demand stays light sellers will eventually capitulate
and there will be great used guitar bargains.
What do you think? Has the used guitar market
dried up recently?

I've been watching ebay a lot lately too and noticed the same thing. I'm waiting for someone who desperatly needs to sell a banner J45 and there are no other takers. O.K., dream on, I know, but there are some real bargains out there, and liable to be many more.

The used market goes up and down every 3 or 4 months... I would not put to much stock into a few rough weeks. For some of the nicer taylors, prices have actually gone up recently...

All discretionary spending is way down. People are jittery.

How could they not be under the current conditions? If you have any doubts, read this article from the NY Times: http://www.nytimes.com/2008/10/02/bu...agewanted=1&hp

Let's hope we will be able to get back to some normalcy...

Like schooner said, whenever the economy is down, guitars (and all other non-necessities) go with it. Also, I'd theorize that people blowing all their money on summer vacations and now having to buy back-to-school items has cut down on superfluous purchases. I know my spending during the summer is definitely higher.

That said, now is a great time to buy! You should be able to find some great deals out there as people liquidate to get them through the tough times.

Guitars will get you through times of no money better than vice versa.

It seems to happen in direct relation to a certain members buying habits
