Default Clip On's for Open Tunings?

I'm working on my first song that uses open tunings and wondering if there are clip on's that do this well or can I use my TC Polytune? Thanks!

I have used Snark/polytune clip-ons, pedal tuners and cellphone apps and they all work fine. I go between standard, open G, open E, and open D frequently.

Anything chromatic should work...

I'm not sure I understand the question. A tuner will tell you what note you are playing. Alternative tunings simply require you to tune to a different note. Still a note though and therefore still on the tuner.

the tuner just hears the note.. as long as you know what note you want, it will tune it to that.

the Peterson strob clip has a tempered tuning for DADGAD which I find amusing.. it works and all but,, what makes dadgad need it's own "setting"??

Default Clip On's for Open Tunings?

I use altered tunings and as others have said, any chromatic tuner will work as would a tuning fork and then use the tuned string as reference for tuning the other strings.
On another note (no pun intended) Some tuners have what are called “sweetened” tuner settings. I have not used that setting but understand that if you play in a particular key alot, you can tune certain strings a bit sharp or flat so the chords in that key sound more in tune with each other. James Taylor has a video on YouTube describing how he tunes his guitars for the keys he most plays in.
Best,
Jayne

If you know what the altered tuning is, such as DADGAD, Open G,D,E, etc. any clip on will work and any chromatic tuner is able to pickup whatever note is being played.

I personally like the TC Polytune clip on as I play outside a lot and the lights that that tuner uses I can see no matter how sunny it is.

Some tuners only "look for" standard tuning notes - I made the mistake of getting a Kort (not a clip-on, though), and it's really not the right thing to tune to open D or C6.

Default Clip On's for Open Tunings?

Almost every tuner including your Polytune has a ‘chromatic’ setting. Use this setting and find your desired note for each string. For the Polytune you probably need to tune single strings individually. Not the actual ‘poly-tune’ functioning, but the more basic tuning mode.

Thanks everyone. I figured it out with my PolyTune. Couldn't wrap my mind around it since I've only used standard tuning and thats what magically appears on the tuner. After I did the individual strings it seems to have recognized what I was tuning to.

I recently bought the Fender Flash clip on tuner, it's rechargeable and...

Alternate tuning modes: Open G, D, E,♭ and ♭♭

Any chromatic tuner (along with one's ears) would work fine for alternate tunings.

I looked at a few that include alternate tunings but none had open F which is song I'm learning. Anyway, the PolyTune seems to work fine and I bought a new one. Mine is a very old first generation if there's such a thing.
