Had my sole acoustic broken in '85. Everything lives in its case now.

My soul acoustic (see what I did there ) lives on a stand. It is always a surprise when I come down stairs in the morning and find that it hasn't run off!
I did have a mad dream last night that someone sat on it at a party (God knows why, must have been the Lamb Tikka Balti I had at the local Indian yesterday evening!). But I also realised that, as it is not actually worth a bean, it gave me an excuse to go hunting for a new guitar!

Since the Lowden came home I hardly ever play my other guitars. I should play them more. I'm getting to the point where I take one out and it hardly feels familiar.

Yes OP..... I do this too.... I had a Maton EM225c under the bed for months. Before I put it there I put new strings on. Like was said on this thread - it felt like a new guitar. I now rotate them all into playing groups and resting groups.

I have a platform bed, so I can't put anything under it. But I have three guitar stands in my living room that I use to rotate my choices. I usually have one electric and two acoustics reaching out to me at any given time.

I keep mine in cases, but nothing under the bed and I play a different one each day.

Nope. I keep mine in their cases (one out always on a wall hanger). All are in the play rotation. I bet the one under your bed needed a little dusting when you pulled it out.

There’s a story I love about Verlon Thompson talking to Guy Clark about how he’s wanting get his hands on an 18 style Bourgeois dread, and Guy saying that Verlon should look under his his bed, he reckons one is there… and sure enough there was. Sometimes tough to sort Guy facts from myths, but it’s a great story anyways.

A necessity in small apartments
I have less than 1000 sq feet in my apartment and have a good lil' collection of six full-size instruments: flattop x2 (one nice, one campfire-grade), archtop, banjo, dobro, electric... so yeah.
I keep cased instruments and empty cases under the bed and/or under the sofa. Right now, I need to keep two underneath something just to have room for the rest. The rotation is quick and everyone gets played often... except maybe the dobro. Should get that thing out soon. I keep my current bedtime instrument on a soft chair next to the bed for easy access. It moves back into the case or the wall hanger in the morning and then someone moves to the chair in the evening. |

My goal is to own the minimum number of instruments necessary to pursue whatever musical goals are in front of me. The number may swell if I'm trying something new (e.g. now with nylon strings) but at some point I always drop back down to the least number possible. And if I'm not playing something and it doesn't have a specific gig use, then it gets sold. Sometimes with regrets, but there's always another instrument out there. Well, except my #1 bass - that can't be replaced.
So no, never any instruments tucked away - they're all out and ready to play. Cases are in storage, gig bags available for quick grab. But everyone has different wants/needs/desires. And that's...ok.

No, I really don't keep any in my bedroom. I do have a music room/man cave and I made a guitar stand that can hold 8 guitars at once so I play those mostly and when I get a hankering to change a couple of those out with the 7 I still have in the closet....Yes, I know I am a guitar hoarder, I just can't help myself, I just never want to say "damit why did I sell that guitar" so I just keep dipping deeper into my pocket when I find a new one.
