Dark and tight is the back of my Gibson J-200 Jumbo, with a bookmatched back grain gently curving away from the center line and then curving back to the center at the bottom in a shallow elliptical pattern.
Handsome it does. Handsome it is. 5" deep and 17" wide and curves that kill is "the Gibson". A boon companion for half my life. Be well and play well, Don .

I must be an outlier regarding the looks of guitar backs. Honestly, without looking I couldn't describe the back of any of my guitars other than my Ovation (for obvious reasons). Now the tops, that's a different story. I like the looks of wood in general - straight, curly, bearclawed, pretty much all of it. I do like it to have some interesting character, and love the look of many of the Koa guitars I've seen.
