thin body acoustics
hi I know I brought this up before ,but recently doing some searching ,I can't find a thin body acoustic that LOOKS like an acoustic . I have been wanting a cutaway with a 1 3/4 nut but maybe half as deep as an OM . Shoulder and neck pain are why I ask. I saw a Rick Turner model but it does not apeal to me.

Mitchells are thin. Seen them in a few church bands.

The best of them have cedar tops. Not sure of the nut width. The old Guild Songbird S4ce might also work for you. https://reverb.com/item/42533202-gui...e-natural-1999 |

Perhaps a guitar with a Manzer Wedge would work for you?

Indeed. Keep your eye out for a Guild Songbird acoustic-electric.

Have you tried holding your guitar in a different manner?
I sit and play and have found that the classical guitar position is less stress on the neck, shoulder and fretting hand/arm.

Hi yes i have tried to hold the guitar differently but after all these years ;it doesn't feel natural. I guess I am not an ovation fan . The closet I see is the Guild ; but no one makes an OM style with a cutaway. Wish I could draw and give it to a guitar designer .

Charis has made a few thinline acoustics for live use. He's currently semi-retired and charging a LOT.
I'm sure most builders might be willing to make such a guitar. |

What about the Fender Acoustisonic. I played one of those models. Can't remember which one but it sounded OK even not plugged in.

yamaha used to make some thin body acoustic/electric models. they probably still make them, i've seen a few in use on stage. i know nothing about them as far as pure acoustic tone.
Wechter made some thin body guitars, some were made either in canada or USA, and copies were imported from asia. they were quite good plugged in, the imports were thin/quiet sounding unplugged. i never saw one of the bench made ones but i remember people said they were quite good. i think this one on ebay is one of the import models, they were nice built. i think they were shipped to Wechter and they did the in house setups on them. they played effortless. really fun guitar, i almost purchased one. seems like the back is ovangkol if i remember correct and this one looks just like what i tried out. they were around $1000 in 2004 or 2005 if memory is correct. came with a gigbag, the special design hardcase cost $200 or thereabouts(this one has the hardcase-cool!). the necks had an electric feel to them, thin and fast. https://www.ebay.com/itm/11495940146...2ac4bf96368360 a couple of folks who used them: https://www.wechterguitars.com/artists Last edited by darylcrisp; 02-15-2022 at 09:28 PM. |
