Default Had the Gang Out on Saturday -- 60F in Central NJ

Man, it was so nice in Central NJ this past Saturday... 60 degrees! In mid-Feb that almost never happens.

Got an hour of enjoyment on my deck before the snow arrived Sunday. It was 22F as the high today, and is currently 13F at the time of this posting, lol.

Here's a little noodling on the newcomer -- Martin D-28CAA (photo center, below). Enjoy... (just don't expect Trey Hensley or Bryan Sutton )

Saturday, 60F

2 Days Later...

That D-28CAA is SWEET! Is that the one that was at TME? I was hoping to check that one out in person but it was gone by the time I got down there. I love that satin Ambertone mild distress look on those. I'm hoping they eventually add that to the D-18 and 000-18 line.

No, I bought this one last month from the original owner, who got it from Empire Music when they first came out in May 2021.

I did play a couple of Aged ones at TME when I visited in November. Those are now in the hands of other AGF members, along with several others that TME had in the back room that were not on the website or out on the floor.

This is the best Martin I have ever played or owned, period. Nothing else I've had from them comes close. Nothing.

spring is coming, that was a tease for sure.

good for you to take advantage of it.

I am restoring a 73 Fender Jaguar, I was able to get quite a bit of sanding of the body done outside.

I can’t WOWZER that lineup enough!! That’s an impressive arsenal and if you need me to babysit a couple of those for you, I believe I could find it in my heart to do so. I’d be good to them….I promise!!

Looking good B, you've done a lot of trial and error to get the A team on board!

It's going to be close to 60 on President's Day. Time to start putting the set list together.

Indeed, Paul. The D-28AA was kind of the final frontier. Glad I waited all this time for a variant with a more friendly neck and adjustable truss rod. Sold the D2HTS and the Merrill OM-18. Nothing left to sell that I'd be willing to part with, so I guess that's it.

If true, I say bring it on. This winter has been really chafing. Not much snow, but very cold and entirely too dry. Been struggling to maintain 40 rh minimum this season.

Beautiful bunch there, Brendan! I think you have the Dread size covered.

And glad to hear you had a slight break in the weather. My NJ relatives have been moaning about this winter, and some of them are headed down to northeast Florida soon to visit us and escape the chill. I haven't touched a snow shovel in three years now, and I'm not complaining about that. But I do complain when it doesn't get out of the 50s here. I guess the blood thinning theory might be right.

A Martin flanked by two Merrill's flanked by two SCGC's...yeah that's quite a fine group of dreads! Play on my brother! Addendum...the Martin looks to be a tad more narrow in both upper and lower bouts than the Merrill's or Santa Cruz? Optical illusion?

What amazing guitars! I'd like to see a "2 Days Later" pic with the guitars in sweaters or jackets .

We had the same weather here. Record breaking temps on Sun followed by a frigid snowstorm yesterday.

You were the smart one Larry -- you got out of Dodge. I have to say, working remotely from FL sounds very appealing right about now.

Hey Jim, nope that's an optical illusion. "Dark colors are slimming," as they say. It's actually the Santa Cruzes that are smaller. Here are the measurements:

Martin & Merrill dreads

Upper bout width: 11.5"
Lower bout width: 15.625" (Martin) / 15.75" (Merrill)
Depth at neck heel: 3.875"
Depth at tail: 4.875"
Overall body length: 20"

Santa Cruz D/PW

Upper bout width: 11.125"
Lower bout width: 15.5"
Depth at neck heel: 3.625"
Depth at tail: 4.625"
Overall body length: 20"

Santa Cruz 1934D

Upper bout width: 11"
Lower bout width: 15.5"
Depth at neck heel: 3.5"
Depth at tail: 4.5"
Overall body length: 20"
