They prefer the tone acoustically, or do you mean when amplified? I've read Tusq offers more even frequency response with fewer hot spots that may occur with Bone saddles. But acoustically, Bone sounds great.

I could be wrong, but I'm fairly sure that Bob's buffalo products are Water Buffalo, not Bison. If I'm wrong, I'll happily stand corrected.

Amplified, mostly.

I've read that as well, but never seen hard evidence to support that, nor have I ever hooked a guitar up to analyze its frequency response to compare Tusq and bone on the same instrument.

How does this work? Do you send him your guitar? Send him your existing saddle with #s on how you want intonation and/or string height changed relative to the existing saddle?

I just don't get how custom mail order saddles work.

I read buffalo too. Bison were (are?) native to North America..they're the ones that were hunted to near extinction. Buffalo are those we are familiar in africa.

Lets not get into a discussion on the differences in sound of bison and buffalo pins. LOL

Any suggestions?
You'd definitely need a caliper since it requires a great deal of accuracy to get a good fit. The saddle, you may get away with a ruler, and should slightly overestimate, since you will still have to sand a little bit to get a perfect fit.

For the pins, a) measure them somehow using calipers, b) ask Bob himself about pin size. Certain hes made pins for other hummingbirds too.

I'm in utter, absolute, complete agreement on that!
