In October, I'll be flyng in to Boston and heading up the coast to Maine. Any must-see guitar stores, shops, live acoustic music venues?

To get you started in the Boston area: for guitar shops, The Music Emporium in Lexington and The Minor Chord in Acton.
For Live Acoustic Music, Club Passim in Harvard Square and too many coffeehouses to list. I'll leave it to others for the rest of your itinerary. Enjoy your travels! Dave

If you are going to do any leaf-peeping, Vintage Fret on Squam Lake in Ashland, NH is a great shop with great views in the Lakes Region.

If you get up to Bar Harbor area check out Mainely Music on US1 in Ellsworth. Not a big shop, but when I visited I played some nice Larrivee and Bourgeois guitars.

Bourgeois Guitars are made in Lewistown, ME, so you might swing by for a tour, just make sure to call in advance...

Afterward, your first stop when you leave Boston will take you 20 minutes West out Route 2 to Lexington to the Music Emporium http://www.themusicemporium.com/. Plan to spend 2-3 days there. But before you leave town, check the calendars for live music at 1. Club Passim (nee Club 47) in Harvard Square: http://passim.org/club-passim?page=1...FU-Z4AodXXYA7w. Tasty vegan dinners are served (beer and wine too), or you can eat at any number of nice places in the Square. Perfect time of year to visit. 2. Johnny D's in Somerville, just north of Boston: http://johnnyds.com/music-calendar/. Not typically as acoustic as Passim, but there might be a reason to go there...? 3. Narrows Center for the Arts in Fall River, about 40 minutes south. Attracts many great performers that need a bit larger venue than Passim, but not as large as a music hall: http://www.narrowscenter.org/. For the right artist, well worth the trip. And don't forget about When you get "down east," look for mom-and-pop offerings for blueberries, blueberry baked goods, or blueberry jams and preserves. The harvest is just ending, and if you like them, there's none better than fresh Maine blueberries. Have fun, enjoy the fall colors! |

Will second Music Emporium, but warn not to go on a Saturday...its almost like Guitar Center!
Union Music in Worcester is great, Martin-Taylor-Guild-G&L-Gretsch dealer, and if you get over to Brattleboro, VT then Maple Leaf Music is very nice and usually has a range of Huss and Daltons to try...lots of little places to eat on Main St... Have a nice trip! |

[QUOTE=Misty44;3632525]I assume you're coming in October to cheer the Red Sox on to a World Championship! Good for you!
You know, Fenway is on my short list of places to visit. I've always loved the Red Sox from afar (but I can't stand the Patriots....sorry). Since my Texas Rangers have absolutely fallen apart this final month of the season, I'm pulling for the Sox. I figure there's got to be a ton of great sports bars to watch a game. No doubt they will still be playing. |

Another great venue in Southern NH is Tupelo Music Hall.
http://www.tupelohalllondonderry.com You'll be a couple weeks early for Andy McKee on Nov. 10th, but some great performers and an open mic night (10/3) are scheduled for October. http://tickets.tupelohall.com/defaul...x&MV=10/1/2013 It's BYOB and there is a great wine store on the first floor, just in case

Snuggled around Fenway are several bars that cater to the "sold out and I can't get a ticket" crowd. About as close to the action and the spirit of a Fenway crowd as you can get outside of the park. Doesn't matter if the game is home or not, the Fenway Faithful will always gather, especially and en masse during the playoffs. Here they are: http://voices.yahoo.com/6-sports-bar...-10449237.html Enjoy. |

Nobody loves Maine or guitars more than me. But if I was going in the next two weeks ( which I am) I would put the guitar hunt on the back burner and just enjoy the three L's of the season, Lobster, Lighthouses, and leaves. The best time of year to be there. Beautiful old well maintained buildings, super nice people, plenty of art and maritime museums to see. Your traveling about two thousand miles to get here, enjoy!!
