Default unintentional NGD...no really

I bought my forever Martin back at the turn of the Century, or so I thought. It was the second D35 in my life and I played and pampered it daily for almost 15 years. But I hit a speed bump in my plan when the low profile neck started giving me pain, eventually limiting play time to less than a half hour at a sitting. So I sold it. The new owner seems pleased and I have another guitar that doesn't bother my hand, so life was good...for about 5 days.

Less than a week after I sold the D35 I was in the Boulder, CO area on business and happened to stop in at Wildwood Guitars in Louisville. Now I just wanted to try a mod V neck to see how my hand would deal with it...just curiosity mind you. Well now, it just so happened that a new HD28V had arrived that very day. They unboxed it for me and I played for about 45 minutes without pain. I asked them to put it aside until the next day so I could sleep on it. I drove about an hour the next morning to go back and play it one more time. After about an hour there was no question left in my mind. The fine folks there set it up to my liking while I waited and home we went.

I started playing about 3:00 and my wife made me stop at 5:30 for dinner I went back at it about 6:00 and played until 9:00. Five plus hours playing 13's and no pain, I am in heaven! My apparent Martin addiction is once again at bay.

As I understand it, a NGD doesn't count without pics, so here goes.

And that is why they make different neck profiles.

Personally I can't play a Martin Modified V neck for more than a minute without shooting pain in my left thumb. Glad they work for you though.

Congrats on the new Martin. It's great you could find such a comfortable fit that lets you play like that.

Very nice! A D-28 is on my gas list. Even better a herringbone one, they're the classiest of them all.

Love the stone player there. What's his name?

Oh, and congratulations on the new Martin, lovely rosewood back!

Thanks everyone, for all of the kind words. I've always favored low profile necks, but things change and now the mod V is just right. It's funny, I tried a vintage V neck about 40 years ago and didn't care for it, but now its just what I need.

PJ, that's little Rampix of course
