No qualified judge of 'best' but I'm very fortunate to say I own the three acoustic I liked the most that I've ever played.
Favorite electric was a TK Smith Smith Special played at TR Crandall, increddibly cool twangy guitar but I've just gone off electrics completely. Also played Steve Herbermann's commins seven string once, that thing was a beast.

Played a cracked and beat up J-50 at Guitar Center. Couldn't believe the loud balanced sweet sound that came out. Also played a SCGC OM Grand that was as nice.

Would have to say my harp guitar. But then, after working as hard and long as I did to afford it I'm rather partial to it.

Not sure of the year but it was a Framus Black Rose - it is an archtop. That guitar sounded great all the way from playing real quiet accompaniment right down to digging in and making it bark!
I would give my lef.... But my friend will never sell it...he'll be buried with it(according to him). |

My definition of a nice guitar is one that I instantly bond with. Character counts. These are all very particular guitars rather than blanket statements about models. These are listed in the order I encountered them across the years. Also I am excluding my own guitars:
- 1970s Guild D-25 - 1990s Taylor 410 w rosewood B&S and pinless bridge - early 70s Martin D-35 - Martin 00-37KSM (the only new one, and the most beautiful) - 1990s Froggy Bottom H-12 - 1997 Taylor 810 - early 60s Martin 0-16NY - early 90s Collings D3 - mid-60s Gibson Hummingbird (natural) All sublime. The Collings is the "objective" winner, but overall the d35 would be my true #1. Aside from my Texan of course.

best I've played
Though I wasn't able to play in the best surroundings, there is just one that stands above the crowd, that sounded better than anything I have: it was Bruce Sexauer's Pear guitar that was at Woodstock.
