up to E
Can a washburn or a seagull handle an Open E tuning? Would tuning the
strings up 1 step and 2 steps cause the brdge to crack or warp the neck? |

Can't you tune to D and capo?

You can search online for string tension calculators that will let you figure out the overall tension for a given tuning/string set/scale length...if you do so I think you'll find the tension for Lights tuned to Open E to be similar to Mediums in standard tuning.

I've been wondering about this too, as I have a new song I'm working on which I originally worked out in open D, but my singing voice suits it better in F#, and I need to be able to play up to the 12th fret, which, would be the 16th if I tuned to Open D and capo'd at the 4th...
So I've been tuning to open E and capoing at the second... I don't leave my guitar in this tuning for longer than I'm playing, and I always return it to standard afterwards... Apart from, possibly, throwing the truss rod off, is there any harm to come from this?
