Default Stringjoy

I know we've had a million string threads lately (I kinda like them since I'm currently on a string journey).
I just had an ad pop up for Stringjoy strings.
At first I thought it was a retailer like one of our sponsors - Strings by mail but they are a brand instead.
I don't recall reading about them anywhere here. Their claim to fame, at least according to the web site is long lasting tone and tension balance. They want &14.90 for a set of "natural bronze phosphor"
Anyone try these and what did you think?

I've seen String Joy for awhile and followed them on Instagram just to see how they portrayed themselves. I'd say their biggest and best claim is to do custom gauge sets. So, if the gauges of a standard string set aren't what you want, order a custom set from these guys. Another thing that pops up a good bit on their feed are "exotic" guitars for lack of a better term. 7-string, 9-string, harp guitars, etc. I guess I can see the appeal there.

In the end, I had two realizations. One, I am a hack guitar player and have no real need for custom string gauges. Two, I'm pretty happy with the Martin Retro Tony Rice strings so why pay over double the cost for other strings. Curious about anyone's actual experience with playing these strings.

It sounds like they could be a "joy"ful find. At least the company wants us to think so.

thanks Tnez. I'm with you in that my level of play certainly doesn't require custom strings.

I use them and they are the only strings I use now. I get the natural medium for a nice woody sound on my ovation legend plus ,and I get bright super light for my Martin omcxae, for more of ringing sound.

They will also replace broken strings if you ask them. Good strings, great company. I usually get my order in two days.

Check them out on Stringjoy sight.

I ordered two sets of light 80/20's for my maple Gibson AJ. I immediately noticed a pronounced lack of the usual brightness I expect from 80/20. WIll likely give the second set away.

Default Balanced Tension

One of their best features is the balanced tension sets. The string tension feels the same across the strings, (equates to equal effort to fret and bend strings). Another excellent feature is their customer service ! Even if you dont buy their strings, they have lots of great info in their videos on their YouTube channel. Also their strings are made, packaged and shipped from Nashville, Tenn.

I bought two sets a couple years ago. They did not make the cut. I wouldn't purchase again for any price.

Bought a set based on hype and one of the strings was was defective. They replaced the string but I wasn’t pleased with the tone or the life of the set.

Default Longevity

I got a set of balanced tension in nickel wound electric strings, but in acoustic string gauges. They sound great and being nickel wound they last a long time without being coated strings. Here is a good video on the subject.

I remember looking at their custom sets and couldn't help thinking Newtone in the UK offers custom sets with a far greater choice for less money and a cheap fixed price postage.

Default Replacements

I just restrung my Fender A/E with a set of Stringjoys 2 days ago, the high E snapped tuning up. I sent them an e-mail and they sent me 2 replacements, 2 day shipping, no charge!

And...Newtones sound excellent, last long and are low in calories.
