What strings?
What strings do you recommend for a vintage archtop acoustic guitar that are not flat wound? It's for a Hofner from the late 50's

D'Addario Mediums are just fine for most vintage acoustic archtops.

I like monel strings on my not vintage Eastman archtop. I've tried Martin Retros, Newtone, and now have settled on Curt Mangan round core monel.
I also like the sound of Ernie Ball aluminum bronze. They add a twang that I don't get from other strings.

Another vote for Martin Retro monels...

I just put Curt Mangan round core Monel 13s on my Pono 00 12 fret with Macassar Ebony B&Ss and really love them. Even better tuned down. They really balance a bright guitar with lots of sustain. I didn’t like the Martin Monels, but it was on a very different guitar, so who knows. I also love Curt Mangan classicals. Really well balanced strings and great tone from the difficult G. So definitely keep Curt Mangan in mind. Sleeper string maker for sure. |

I use D'addario NB Nickel Bronze 13-56 mediums on my Eastman, Harmony and Gibson.
Last forever.

If you're not put off by the price, Thomastik-Infeld GR112 round wounds are terrific strings on my custom made archtop (recommended by my luthier). They play like the proverbial butter, sound terrific and last forever (it seems).
At about half the price, I go for the Stringjoys. The Husky Light Plus is a 10.5-52 nickel wound full-range (Stringjoy has gauges and sets for everyone. Or, single and custom sets to meet every need).
