Seagull S6 - Two Versions
Sweetwater lists two versions of the Seagull S6
The Classic M-450T, which has electronics - $399 https://www.sweetwater.com/store/det...m-450t-natural The Original, without electronics - $419 https://www.sweetwater.com/store/det...iginal-natural Both are made of the same materials, and appear to be the same size. Why would I not want the Classic, with the electronics for $20 less??? Last edited by skycyclepilot; 10-17-2019 at 06:20 AM. |

Some people have no need for the electronics. Just something to go wrong, shake loose, cause problems, etc. Maybe they don't like the sound of the built in system and want to use their own pickup. Also the few ounces of weight seems to bother some folks. Me? I prefer the option of plugging in with built in electronics.

At this time I believe the S6 original is available with the 1.8" nut width and also available in the S6 original "slim" version with the 1.72" nut width.
The S6 classic (M-450 T) is only available with the 1.72" nut width. |

Are the nut the same width? The Original S-6 had a 1.8" nut (same fingerboard width as 1¾" nut). The newest models have a 1.72" nut (spaced like 1¹¹⁄₁₆"). Their pickups are B-Band (which are great). |

The S6 Original has a nicer finish than the Classic and, possibly, slightly nicer cuts of wood. Also, B-Band has supposedly gone out of business (https://www.acousticguitarforum.com/...d.php?t=542494).

I found mention of the nut width difference in an online article. Does that 0.08" difference really matter???

To some of us, yes... a lot.

I've been playing guitar for forty years, but in a lot of ways I'm a noob. Would you mind elaborating on why a small difference in nut width would matter, and to whom it would matter? Would it matter to rank amatuer players like myself?
Thanks... |

It depends on a number of things... hand size, strength, finger length. It depends on what you're used to. I can usually see the difference between 1 11/16" and 1 3/4" from across the room. I've played one size for almost 50 years and it's comfortable.
String spacing up the fretboard also makes a big difference. Some people like a wider nut for fingerstyle, but I don't. It doesn't matter if I'm playing fingerstyle or barring 6 strings. It's just personal preference. Nothing wrong with any nut size or any string spacing. Yes, it can matter to a pro and it can matter to a rookie. To other folks, it makes no difference at all. |
