Default Central Ohio tech/luthier suggestions?

Best guitar tech/luthier in central Ohio? I may need some repairs done to a fairly expensive guitar in my book (4.5k) that could require finish touch-ups. I am extremely picky and meticulous and want someone who really knows what they’re doing and will do a good, clean job. Any suggestions?

May be worth a drive (or pack and ship) to Lansing, MI to Elderly if you can’t find someone close by.

There is Lay's Guitar Repair and Burning River Guitars but both are in Akron so I am not sure how close they are to you.

Thank you, I will check those out. Have you had work done at either of those?

I bought my guitar at Lays and had a little work done.
They shaved the saddle and filled a couple of dings.
Don used to be the luthier there - he seemed to be fairly knowledgeable and capable.
That was 3 or 4 years ago.

I live close to Columbus. I highly recommend Guitar House Workshop, in Grandview. They are excellent! I’ve had them perform set ups on my guitars. They have done some repairs for me as well. Three crack repairs and also some finish repair. I have been extremely happy with their work. Here is their contact information.

Hands down, Kraig Phillips in Grandview. I swear he's a magician.

I have had three guitars repaired at Lay's. I walked away happy with the work and the prices charged. Dan Shinn, whose father had been hired by Virgil Lay on the spot when he brought in a guitar he had built himself to show them, now runs the shop. That guitar is still sitting in a case on the wall. As far as I know Lays is still sticking with their Pandemic way of doing business by scheduling appointments for repairs. And if you go there be sure to take the time to go upstairs to what they call "The Loft". Some amazing new and vintage instruments.

I have never gone with Burning River so cannot vouch for them personally. But the owner used to work for Lay's and has an excellent local reputation.

He's further south and near impossible to get ahold of.

Hi Marisab-etc

Tim McKnight is a luthier who lives in Morral, OH (North of Marion).

He is an amazing builder, and meticulous. If he could not help you, he might be able to recommend someone who can.

He is a member of this forum (often has builds or comments in the "Custom Build" section of the forum).

[email protected]

I would trust him with my Olson.

Another vote for Guitar House in Columbus. Experienced, honest and fair prices. They have set up most of my guitars and done Martin warranty work.
