Wow. That is the best guitar comparison I have ever, ever seen, er, heard. Seen and heard. Impressive job. Impressive site.
(I'd put a bone saddle on the Taylor and bring it home) .

Thanks for the YouTube link, well done side by side.
Boy that Taylor upper mid bump would get to me, between those two it's the Martin for me. |

What a great video. I like how they switch guitars in the middle of the song. In this video, I prefer the Martin. I wish he would have said which strings he was using. I'm assuming stock strings right from the factory, if so, those Elixirs are a little bright.
Goldfox, to answer your question, I haven't played the Taylor 300 series mahogany topped guitar yet. Note that it has solid sapele back/sides, not mahogany. |

I played the Taylor 320 recently and it sounded just like the demo. It has a little growl to it, which I like. I typically don't like the Taylor sound, as its a little bright for my personal taste, but I think with different strings the Taylor might change my mind. IF I had the money for either guitar, it'd be a tough decision. It's a REALY nice guitar. I'm saving now for a used Martin D15m, which I am seeing for about $800. It'll be a while before a used Taylor of this kind is available at that prove point I think.

Yes, excellent video, a very good representation of the difference between the two guitars.

Hmmm. Quite representative of each brands reputation. I personally like the Martin better, warmer, more bass. The Taylor was a bit bright for me, not what I look for in a mahogany dread. I'd have to play them in person though for a conclusive opinion.

You should be able to get the Martin new for $950 or so. $800 is too much for a used one. The warranty is certainly worth $150, IMO. When I was watching Ebay a while back, the average selling price for a D15 was around $725.

Tough to call, but since I use flesh/bit of nail finger style attack, I would have to go for the Taylor. I think I would tame the brighter edge. I like that it has more clarity and articulation in the tone. The first few clips of finger style gave it the edge...but, the strumming at the end favored the Martin mojo. Looks wise I thought the Taylor has a more beautiful wood grain and such. It would be better imho with a nice tortoise binding and matching tortoise rosette. I also like the ebony bridge and fret board. Great video, I enjoy their YTC often.

If I were in the market for a D-15 I would spend a little extra and order one of Ted's Customs with the tortoise binding. Binding is not just for looks, it's functional, and the unbound guitars I own show significantly more dents and dings than the bound ones.

I've compared those guitars several times myself, and i am seriously considering a purchase. Strange--in person I much prefer the Taylor. In this video however, I like the sound of the Martin better.

They had the same strings. Taylor...prettier, Martin.....best smooth tone.

I prefer the Taylor. Much better looking to my eyes. I prefer the 1 3/4" nut, and while the Martin does have more bass, to my ears the Taylor doesn't sound as muddy.
