Default Guitar shops in Washington DC?

Hey guys!

I'm leaving for DC in the morning and was wondering if there are any gems in the area that i should check out. Landmark guitar stores? or factories/small boutique builders?

thanks a lot!

Welcome. Would like to say there are many and all close to Landmark. There are a couple that have interesting selections of guitars to see and try. My favorites are the 2 Melodee Music Stores. They are a hike out to Sterling and Leesburg in Virginia. Both usually have a good number of Martins and Taylors. They also carry Huss and Dalton, Collings, Breedlove and Larrivee. People are nice and you are welcome to try all the guitars you like.

Many people like Chuck Levins Music in Wheaton, Maryland. I am not a big fan as it is always crowded and very noisy. They mostly have Martins and Taylors in the acoustic room.

House of Musical Traditions is pretty good and I think they have a pretty nice selection of Bourgeois guitars at the moment. They have a couple of Breedlove Revival Deluxe models there that are very nice as well. (I take lessons there). If its not too late for you, you can check out current inventory for these stores on their web pages.

Dont know how long you are here, but there are some pretty good stores in the Baltimore are too. My favorite is Appalachian Bluegrass in Catonsville.

Plenty of Guitars Centers too.

Nice week to be here. Spring weather! Let me know if you have questions. Glad to help out.

I believe Acoustic Axis is still open in Alexandria/Shirlington:

Acoustic Axis

And, I'm in DC. The shop's a wreck right now because I've been making tooling for days, but you're welcome to come by and try a guitar. Give me a call. PM me for the number.

+1 on Appalachian, if you can make it out that far from DC. If you do find yourself in Catonsville, might as well hit Bill's Music too...

Atomic Music, which deals primarily in used gear, has locations in Rockville and Beltsville; not much in the way of acoustics, but tons of electrics.
