Default Did u find the Grail if bought unseen?

I know all Taylor share high quality in general.
However not every Taylor show the Holy Grail
that we're drooling for. So if you bought your
Taylor unseen and unplayed, like by phone/mail
order, how likely would you find it? Or just a regular
"good" guitar?

I know this seems unlikely, but I was so happy with the 710coco I was actually surprised. It sounded better than I expected it to sound.

Well, I'm going to find out in a few weeks. However, does it count if some other TGF-ers have tried it out for me?

Generally, all of the Taylors I have bought sight-unseen have sounded very good- better than expected in all cases. Ill admit that I am particularly partial to my 914c Taylorstock simply because I picked out all the wood for it...but It's definitely got a better tone than I could have hoped for...and it's WAY louder than I imagined a GA could be...so these are all good things.

My favorite Taylor was an eBay purchase.

Same here. If I remember I will post my vote around Feb 18th.

Cool

For me, my JDCM is my holy grail. I was very amivalent about buying this guitar because at the time the JD became available I owned a K22 that I loved. When I found out my dealer had ordered one, it really threw me into a major quandry. You see, my dealer doesn't normally order signature models. He was just so impressed by the guitar at NAMM (Jan. 2003) that he ordered it. Well after some serious consideration, I told him I wanted it. I know that if I had not liked the guitar, he would have let me out of the deal. However, after seeing it and playing it, that guitar was mine. I've had the guitar since April, 2003. It is opening up so beautifully. It's just become my treasure.

I must say that the positive experience of the JDCM gave me the confidence to order the 954LTD-L2 this past fall. I don't know if that guitar is a holy grail of 12 strings for me, but so far it sure has grabbed me. It's a wonderful guitar, and it'll be fun to experince it as it opens up. Time and playing will tell.

MAKE it a GREAT day!!!

Couldn't vote.

As much as I love my Taylor, my "Holy Grail" is my D-40. It has absolutely everything I want in an acoustic guitar...

For me the 610-SPEC does it. Completely luck of the draw. That said, I've bought a bunch of Taylors over the net or by mail and have never had a disappointment.

But my 610 is definitely SPECial.

My Holy Grail Taylor was my 915CE LTD Maple Jumbo. It was everything I ever wanted a Taylor to be.

However...

I have to admit that my "global Holy Grail" is not a Taylor at all, was still bought sight unseen (on approval) and... well, I won't belabor the point.

Taylors are, however, still my favorite large-factory guitars, by just a smidge.

"Holy Grail" >>>>>> Olson JT Signature SJ

BUT...... my 2000 714 cedar is still a dream to me...
I bought it from a guy in Atlanta who told me I'd be impressed
sight unseen

I was far more impressed than expected... since I already had a 2002 714 cedar to compare it to

Extremely happy with the W14ce I bought right here on the TGF...not sure if it's my "holy grail", but then, I doubt I'll ever know that when I play a guitar. Part of my problem is that I always think there's something better out there...

I'm sure you could get one that way, but my "favs" have always been ones that I did get to listen to first.

I was given a Taylor by my fiance (now wife) that was sight unseen. It was a LTG. it plays really nice. I bought a taylor sight unseen 714ce summer strummer and I was a bit disapointed in the tone. it had some dead notes. but over the past few weeks it's been opening up a bit more and it sounds way better than it did. Im hoping that over time it will be great.

For me, sound was secondary,[although I auditioned several and found whichever model I played, sounded very appealing]. The most important thing to me hands down was the neck profile. I was looking for a guitar with a neck that had the potential to have the action of my '69 Les Paul. That is why I had no qualms ordering what I wanted with a 1 and 11\16ths width neck.
Was I successful on my quest for Les Paul butter like action? After a few modifications which I knew I would do, I would say NO! I'm not there and I don't think I ever will be. But I'm darn close!!!!!
