Mike Pinder had been living in Northern California for many years, in the western foothills of the Sierra Nevada. A singularly original, and great, keyboardist of the most creative kind, indeed. His mellotron playing, especially on the Moody's seminal album release Days of Future Passed, is nothing less than miraculous mastery. Rest in peace, Mike Pinder.
Addendum: Regarding The Moody Blues in general, I like to play the Justin Hayward compositions Nights In White Satin (#2 US Billboard, 1972; #19 UK, 1967; #1 Dutch Single Top 100, 1967; #30 Canada, 1967), Tuesday Afternoon (#24 US Billboard, 1968), and The Story in Your Eyes (#23 US Billboard, 1971; on the original Moody's recording, Mike Pinder lets loose with some terrific Rock piano playing) as solo acoustic instrumentals.
