Default Could a 2022 Taylor 512 have a mahogany body?

I'm looking at this Taylor 512, and am wondering if Taylor made any with mahogany bodies in 2022 (the year the store says this guitar was made). Not getting a definite answer from the store. I thought by 2022 Taylor had switched to the mysterious "ironbark" wood for the 500 series.

Take a look at the back at this link. What do you think?

It looks legit. The serial number decodes as being made on May 11th of 2022. It's got the black "V" Class nut and the fretboard markers look OK. I Googled and found an article on Music Radar dated September 22 announcing Taylor's new "Urban Iron Bark" being introduced in the 500 series.

Smile Yep.

It appears the ironbark started in September of 22.

I googled too.

The new ironbark models usually have an edgeburst, I believe.

the one in question sure appears to be Mahogany B&S

Did you try calling the store?

I would try to get an in hand description from a knowledgeable employee…

Good hunting!

Paul

It looks like the serial number is in the listing, unless I am reading it wrong. A quick call to Taylor with the serial number will get to an accurate answer.

It sure looks like mahogany, I own a 512, 12 fret that I love. Cedar and mahogany give a nice sweet warm sound.

Thanks much for the replies. I have communicated with the store via text, but have not yet called.

Based on the replies above, it seems that if that guitar was built in May 2022, and Taylor switched to "ironbark" in September 2022, then my eyes are correct in seeing the back and sides as mahogany.

I did end up buying that guitar, as it is a mahogany/cedar 512ce made just a few months before Taylor switched the 500 series to the "urban ironbark" body wood. Got a great deal from Manchester Mill Music since it was "new old stock" and they said it might have been used as a trade show demo. Not a mark or scratch on it, so it's "like new" to me.

I was not really shopping for a new guitar, but in the back of my mind I missed the mahogany/cedar tonality of two Taylors I once owned: a 512 and a 514c.

I have a rosewood/spruce Martin 000-28H that I love, and this new Taylor 512ce is a nice complement with a different tone.

I bought a mint 2021 512ce 12 fret a few months ago. What a beautiful guitar. Sounds looks and plays great. ENJOY.
