Newbe here
Hi all, I just joined the forum (altho I have lurked for a while)and wanted to say hello. I have played electric off and on since I was a kid and played in several moderately successful bands in which one band I had the opportunity to open up for Molly Hatchet...Marshall Tucker and Dr. Hook so I had my 5 min. of fame and was grateful for it. I have since retired and put the electrics aside and decided to go the acoustic route. I have much to learn and the level of experience here is astonishing to which I probably will never come close. However I am currently in search of an acoustic partner and hope to get out gigging again without the Hassel of a big band and late nights. Any how I'm sure I will learn lots here and hope to contribute in some small way. In case any one was wondering I have 3 low end acoustics...a martin DCX1E...Breedlove passport and an ovation cc 057 that I had since the 80's. I drool when I see what a lot of you have so maybe one day I'll treat myself. Again...hello all and happy strumming

Welcome to the fun! We will gladly help separate you from your money as you jump into the deep end of high-end acoustic guitar buying!! But you're already well on your way since you have a significant level of playing skill under your belt. So you know what will feel right to you. Now it's just a matter of deciding just how much you're willing to spend on a nice acoustic.

Which guitar??? I could make suggestions about which guitars I like, but for all you know I could be half deaf and play gypsy thrash metal with a thumb pick, and you could play music that is completely different. In other words, my suggested guitars could be quite wrong for you. So, my suggestion is that you get to as many shops (or guitar shows) as you can and play, play, play those guitars that you see. Get a feel for the signature sound and playing feel of each builder you are considering, which body size you like etc. Then, once you have a short list of builders and body sizes, home in on the wood combos that suit you best. And keep us informed about your journey! |
