Default No mention of LaConner.

Anybody going to the LaConner guitar show?
It starts May 17th and lasts the weekend and there are some seriously impressive luthiers going, and I will be there too showing my wares. LaConner is a beautiful small town near the Olympic peninsula in Washington about an hours drive north of Seattle. It’s a well run show in a vacation location.

I wish I could make it, it's on the list though. You don't have to push too hard to get me to go to Washington state, it's so beautiful there.

La Conner is a fabulous show and well organized. It's a spectacular location with a ton of music at a number of venues going on all weekend. I have exhibited at La Conner every year since 2018. Tony Mcmanus will be there along with Mark Hanson, Greta Pederson, Peter Jansen, Steve Davison, along with some of our very favorites, Frog and Toad and if you don't know this artist, you should, Sean Hall. Here is a clip of Sean. He is remarkable. (yes, he is playing his Irvin guitar I built for him a couple of years ago)

also, I posted this one on my last thread but thought with La Conner coming up it would be a good idea to let you all know I am introducing my newest model, the Irvin Baby. here is a look;

I would be there, as I was last year, but instead I must hang out for another couple of weeks in Spain. Oh well.

Though I’ve lived here in Washington for over 30 years, I’ve yet to go to the La Conner Guitar Festival. I go all around the state for bluegrass festivals though.

I enjoy musical gatherings that include camping and jamming together with some great shows. My understanding is there isn’t any camping and jamming at La Conner, so I haven’t attended.

A couple of corrections here.

LaConner is not an hour's drive north of Seattle. With excellent traffic, it is 90 minutes from the northern suburbs, two hours from downtown and 2 1/2 hours from SeaTac Airport. Add the slightest traffic hiccup in there, and you're increasing your time by 50%

Camping. Bayview State Park is less than 15 minutes from LaConner. LaConner Camping Resort is just a couple of miles up the road. Deception Pass State Park is 25 minutes. There are multiple camping facilities around Anacortes.

Smile Have FUN….

Hey John

Have GUNS, will travel seems apt.

Judging by my new Round Peak Tunnel 14/Bubinga, I doubt you will be bringing any back home from this shindig.

You may need to borrow a couple of my stash to take to B.I.G….. hahaha

Wayne, that little Koa beauty is SWEET!

Wish I could go too.

Carry on, all and have a Blast

Paul

We've been to the last two LaConner shows. It's a fun weekend of mostly guitars and gabbing, and some fine music as well. The town is great and in a beautiful location. The LaConner Pub has clam chowder to die for. Last year we took a stunning drive north along the sound from LC to Bellingham.

We leave Portland at about 6-6:30 AM on Saturday and are in LaConner by 10-10:30. From the exit that heads NW from I-5, just north of Seattle, it has taken less than an hour to get to LaConner, both trips.

I’ll be there. It will be my first time displaying at this show. I attended last year and it was a nice event, well organized and so many great luthiers! Really looking forward to meeting everyone.

I’m doing my final setup on these, this week. Just 12 days to go.

If you have more time Deception Pass and Washington Park are close by and beautiful places to camp or day hike.

Wait, what? I'll have to check that out. I live less than 10 miles across the water from LaConner (the way the crow flies) on Whidbey Island--though it takes about 45 minutes to get there (Island life, you know).

Joe, is that a Purpleheart guitar? I have hoped to see more builders using it. And what is the super interesting top on the other one? Is that some kind of sinker Cedar?

The guitar on the right certainly looks like Purpleheart—and it’s a beauty.
Like Jamie, I would like to see more of these, it makes such a stunning guitar.
Best of luck at the show!

Yes it’s Purpleheart, you can see the build as it came together in my thread Madrona Guitars. It’s been a fun build, this set has some exceptional color and figure. It sounds amazing too I might add.

The other one is all Koa, with Cocobolo as a secondary wood for binding and fretboard.
