An '88 510 I've had access to. Love it! Doesn't really sound much like a Taylor, though....

dadmac, are you using 13's on that dread? I am on my 810 and it's loud.

Yes I am but as it is a short scale the strings have less tension and really diging in (strum like a Richie Havens wanna be) is difficult unless having the strings really high with more relief in the neck.

I'll say this much.. my GS/RS is just about every bit as loud as my D42, though with a but less low end.. but it's got serious projection.

Christophe,

My 615 is plenty loud in our worship band. I play plugged in...LR Baggs M-1, to a PADI, and then the house mains. Are you playing plugged in? If so, you should be able to get more sound at the board...balance the other instruments. You may loose alot of sound if you are not using a PADI before you go to the main sound board.

I still have an old Yamaha (about 40 years old) that I 'retired' after moving to a dry climate...the dryness really was hard on the guitar and at the time I really didn't know anything about wood and humidity. Anyway, that guitar was a loud loud guitar. It sounded fantastic...and it has a laminate top...

I have found that pick thickness can make a difference in tone and volume. I have used thicker picks but now use dunlop torex .50mm picks. I used to use the .60mm s but found after A/B ingthem the thinner one was more lively and louder as it allowed the strings to SNAP better causing a better string reaction and vibration. I have found going to thicker picks really dull the tone down.

HOWEVER using the thinner picks than the .50mm things also went south real fast as too flimsy and could not dig in at all well.

Isn't it wonderful to be living in a time with so many great choices. I remember when there where very few guitars to choose from. Communication like we find on this this forum didn't exist, and we had to take what the local shop had to offer. This is such a great forum! If we are patient, we can find exactly what we are looking for.

Cool

I would like to offer an alternative that is much less expensive than most of the guitars already mentioned- the Taylor 110. I'm not sure why- it may be the curved back or lack of back bracing- but these guitars are real cannons unplugged!

BTW, this should not be seen as a plug for the the one I'm currently selling in AGF Classifieds- It really is a very loud guitar- try one out and you will see what I mean.

If you play my 855 with a pick, it is deafeningly loud. Shocking, really.
I think 12er's are naturally loud, and jumbos also. Combine the two and you get a symphony!

My Taylor 110 is one of the loudest guitars I've ever played or owned.

I always thought my revoiced 810 was pretty loud, then I added a bone saddle. Wow! More volume, sustain and still well balanced. Then... I changed to medium Phosper Bronze Elixers, Wow again! I'm loving the tone. The only downside is that in a pure acoustic setting, it's pretty easy to overpower a vocalist. Maybe that can be a good thing too.

Gosh, I thought it was common knowledge that the projection of a guitar listening to it facing you would be distinctly different (louder) than listening to your (any) guitar from above or behind the soundhole. Have the heavy handed dude play your guitar while you play his and see if the shoes not on the other foot.

I don't know about the 110 being exceptionally loud, but it is very responsive. Volume also depends on your strings and action height. My action is mildly low (it was set up by a predominantly electric player), but the guitar drips with tone and is very responsive.

Maybe the qualities you've mentioned add to the responsiveness as well.
