Poor tuner installation
How does stuff like this make it out the door especially from such a revered manufacturer? I see this so often on entry level guitars like Epiphones but not to this degree ! Gets my OCD screaming

…those tuners had to be installed and inspected by a human…some humans pay better attention than others….I don’t reckon there’s much more to it….

I'd be willing to bet that the tuner took a hit AFTER it left the factory floor.
If it wasn't snugged down hard enough to deform the wood at the rear of the headstock then it would easily twist and leave no evidence of where it was originally positioned. Without removing the tuner to check the originally drilled mounting screw location there's no way of knowing for sure. |

The hole in the headstock may be much larger than necessary. The natural pull of the strings will then rotate the tuner into that position. A solution is to wrap narrow tape around the tuner body so the tuner is a snug fit in the hole. Then rotate the tuner to the position you want. If the hold-down screw needs a new hole, fill the old and drill a new.

That looks like a fairly high end Yairi by the look of the headstock. Completely inexcusable for the likely cost of that guitar.

I can’t see this as being caused by a hit or string pull, not with any sign of stress on the securing screw. No evidence of a previous hole for the screw that would show up judging by the degree of rotation out of nominal. Looks to be purely a very sloppy installation that was not corrected at the factory before release to a dealer.
Note: I so not own the guitar, it is advertised for sale non locally.

If that were mine, I'd want them all aligned and parallel with the left and right edge of the headstock, and as it sits right now, that would mean plugging and re-drilling five of the six. Only the top right D string (on the rear shot) appears to be properly positioned. Those tuners look easy to align with either a small straightedge or a couple of pieces of masking tape along the inside edge.

This is something I've been watching a lot. So many tuners are installed crooked. No brand is safe. I've seen it on Martin, Collings, Bourgeois, you name it.

Did you buy that guitar?
I would think you would see that before you buy. Maybe not. I know when people buy a new car, they often overlook allot. Just thinking it's new. The automatically think it's perfect. Have had to deal with these people in the past. |

Looking at the front face the tuner in question appears to be spaced correctly equidistant from the edge as the others. I believe the pilot hole for the screw is the culprit, tech mistake with the drill jig.

My second post states no, seen on a non-local sale site.
