Default The Saturday morning capo thread

Lately I've abandoned my Thalia for the light, quick to use and plenty cheap enough Planet Wave NS. Also sometimes I'll grab my Taylor 12 string capo that I bought to use with my now dust collecting classical. What's your poison lately?

Mostly Shubb, so I can clamp it with the low E uncovered, giving me easy drop E tuning. But when i want optimal tone, G7 Heritage.

My two Elliott-McKinney’s are still my favorite after about 15 years of using them. I also have a couple of G7th Heritage capos and I got another Shubb deluxe for the sole reason that it came in a rose gold finish and I love rose gold. I use that capo with my all mahogany parlor and it sounds fine. Ah, so much fun to have choices.
If I’m playing around with partial capos, I use either Shubb or the G7th Newports.
Best,
Jayne

Shubb 12-string brass wins the day here.

Oh no, not another . . . capo thread

Nothing's changed. G7th Performance 3 for six string; G7th Newport with compensated pad for 12 string.

Why?

No need to re-tune to put these on or take them off.

Easy to use and best on the market

Don

G7th to feel fancy or the Dunlop Trigger to just do the job. The Thalia is nice but weighs a ton!!!

I'm almost afraid to ask this, as I'm not wanting to go down the rabbit hole, but do you really hear such a significant tone difference from the Shubb that it's worth almost a couple hundred more?

I use a capo most of the time. Have used the shubb for years. If another capo can make that much difference, I would have to at least explore this a bit more.

Is it clarity? I have to admit, sometimes the strings can sound a bit muted with the Shubb, but I always thought that's just what capo's do.

donlyn's right; nothing's changed. Nine out of ten guitar playing doctors still prefer the Shubb Deluxe when compared to other leading brands.

That said, it's not so much about WHAT you use, but how you use it. Here's a D'Addario Pro Plus. Watch the capo shift at 2 minutes, quick, easy, and no re-tuning.

I bounce around a bit, my current fave is a Dunlop (Victor) all brass capo. Sometimes I go back to old faithful, a Shubb Stainless Steel Deluxe.

Capos are cheap (or the ones I use are...) so a new capo is only the price of a couple sets of Elixir strings. Try a bunch and see what you like.

Variety is truly the spice of life.

The Shubb Deluxe is my capo of choice. I’ve got one in the case pocket of every instrument I own.

I've got a capo in every guitar case & gig bag I own, so I own a BUNCH of capos. I wish I'd found this one sooner:

I own several different capos.
Each one does a good job and some work better on one guitar than on another one.

When it comes down to,
If I Could Only Own 1 Capo, What Would It Be?

My answer would be Shubb.
It is the most versitile and easy to use capo that I have.

I use a G7th Heritage on my Martin acoustic and a Paige on my Gretsch electric with chrome flat wound strings, since it doesn't tend to slide around as much as the G7th does. I've been considering trying the Shubb FineTune Royale Capo F1g, since it matches the gold hardware on my Gretsch, but I haven't wanted to spend the $85, since the Paige works just fine.

Hey Barry, I always reach for the NS or the Shubb Deluxe. I have a few of each. Last night I reached for the Paige for the first time in probably a couple of years... yep, worked fine.

Nothing Fancy, just a work horse that gets the job done just like my guitars,
Kyser Quick Change
Or Some cheap Amazon Capo that works great, but I worry it's too tight so I don't leave it on..
