Default Residual sound after muting strings

When I pluck the open B string of my acoutic guitar and mute it immediately together with all other string, I could hear a high frequency residual sound from the guitar. With a capo placed on the first fret and repeat the action, there is no residual sound.

Did anyone encounter this phenomenal? Thanks.

Perhaps you're accidentally playing a harmonic? Another possibility, easy to test, is that string between the tuner and the nut is ringing. Use a finger or piece of cloth to mute that section and see if the problem disappears.

My bet is on the string between tuner and nut.

My comments remains the same as your other thread on this a couple days ago - very common.

It's called a sympathetic vibration, and it is the reason I have a piece of felt under the strings, in back of the nut, on all my guitars.

It's even more prevalent with open tunings, which I use almost exclusively.

Consider yourself lucky that you can hear the ringing. At some point it may go away....

Best,
Howard Emerson

Howard is correct. A lot of us lose that frequency later in life. Meanwhile, a piece of something soft will do the trick.
