Default Jason Isbell at the Chicago Theatre

Saw Jason Isbell at the Chicago Theatre last night, with his band the 400 Unit, along with his wife Amanda Shires on vocals and fiddle.

A Christmas present from the wife.

A fantastic performance, with album quality sound. Live shows can always be a disappointment, especially since the vocals can get overwhelmed, but in this instance the balance was perfect. The Martin acoustics were brought out for a number of performances, including, "Elephant" and "Something More than Free."

One of the great moments occurred when someone shouted out between songs "We love your Jason."

He had stepped away from the front of the stage but went back to the mike once he heard that and said, "You know, when I said said to my mom, 'We need to do such and such.' she would would say 'We? Do you have a mouse in your pocket?'' The crown roared.

After a moment he said, "It's OK to say I."

Very charming.

I was at the St. Louis show on Wednesday and have seen him a few times over the past few years (actually got to play a show at City Winery in Nashville with him a couple years ago...pretty great). He never disappoints live. And like you said, their live sound tech is outstanding.

He's also a guy I point to when people bash on UST pickups...he sure makes his Fishman-equipped Martins sound good

Saw Jason Isbell in Berlin a few weeks ago. He put on a great show..professional and really connected with the crowd.

I wondered why John Moreland was so miserable? Didn't acknowledge the crowd, say one word, or bother with an encore.

Saw him explain his acoustic rig on a Utube. Fishman UST to a Fishman Spectrum Aura. Cause it works. And he is really into electronics, on the electric side he lost me after a minute.
