Anyone ever give up electric for acoustic?
Simple answer is yes. Started out both acoustic and electric in the 60s, became mostly electric, and then entirely acoustic before the 80s were done with me. So for about 40 years I have been 100% acoustic. But I still kept my cherry sunburst Gibson Les Paul standard with the flame maple top and hand-wound pickups. And my Fender tube amp. Just don't want to part with them. I fingerpick all my guitars using my nails as picks. Not a fan of calling it a 'zombie' thread. I would rather think of this as a 'Lazarus' thread. Yes, I did so 2 years ago, and I love it. Sold most of my considerable electric gear.

As with some others, I don't see this as an "or" but rather an "and." The target of my energy may vary, I don't "give up" any instrument. I may not gig it (eg banjo) but it still hangs around and makes it on a recording or two.
Most of my guitar gigs are acoustic-focused, don't have a band situation where I play electric guitar other than the occasional theater thing where I'll double/triple. Most of my time the last few years has been picking up squareneck resonator and woodshedding jazz standards on electric and acoustic. I don't see giving up any of those tools any time soon - only when my body quits working correctly...

I did. I started in the late 80s on electric just before the grunge revolution. I was finding myself wanting to use my fingers more than a pick, and a knack for playing arppegiated chords and melodies. So why not just play acoustic? Duh!

I have always been mostly an acoustic player, but I like an electric guitar for some things, especially to add texture on a recording. I kept all my electric guitars over the years and I'm glad I did.

After being primarily a electric player, in the past year I've been reintroduced to acoustic guitar. I definitely play more acoustic these days. Also it's a good reason to buy more guitars. Not that I need one.
