Default Taylor model numbers

Can someone please summarize the Taylor old versus new numbering system? I'm getting confused.

What year was the new system implemented?

Is there a current equivalent of the 310 that is identical to the old model? Is it the same as the DN3?

I'm not sure what you mean by old numbering vs new. To the best of my knowledge, the numbering system has been unchanged for many years. However, in late 2006 or early 2007, (don't quote me on the time, I may be off there), they started referring to the non-cut away models by their initials rather than a number, but the cut away models are still numbered as before.

Here is a summary: a GA (Grand Auditorium) is a X14 series without the cut away. GC = Grand Concert = X12 series without cut away. GS = Grand Symphony = X16 series w/o cutaway. The X10 series = dreadnaughts, and the X15 series are jumbos.

The number (X) before the 10, 12, 14, 15, indicates the wood and finish...generally, the higher the number the more fancy the finish! "e" indicates electronics/pick-up system. Before the common use of GC, GA, GS, the cut-away was indicated with a "c" so a 414ce would mean an ovangol wood GA body with cut away and electronics.

the old system went like this.
310- acoustic
310ce- cutaway and electronics
410- acoustic
410ce- cutaway and electronics
etc you get the picture.

A few years back Bob Taylor decided to do pure acoustic models that where slightly modded( bracing and top thickness etc) to get the most out of the unplugged sound. Hense the new lettered series
DN= dreads old x10 series
GA=grand auditorium old X14 series
GC= Grand concert old X12 series
etc. Hope this helps

Thanks very much, Bob. Could you please put those in order from smallest to largest?

Their serial number system changed late in the year. They no longer put the year as the leading part of the serial number.

Their model system remained the same as the others have pointed out.
