Default 1973 Guild D-25 and D-35 brother and sister

I recently bought a '73 Guild D-35 with the spruce top. I fell in love. Then I happened upon a D-25 (mahogany) of the same year, and bought that too. The D-25 has so much character, beautiful sound, and the both play like a dream. I play alot of slide and open tunings in my set, and I keep the 35 in standard. These guitars play and sound better than other Gibsons and Martins of the like, and I got two of them for around $1200.

Always good to find the tool that works best for you. If you can get TWO for an affordable price, so much the better !

I will always have a soft spot in my heart for Guilds.

I bought my first D-25 back in the mid-1970s. It was a slightly used hybrid version with the spruce top and arched back. It ended up going in a trade for something or the other. I never forgot that guitar so a couple of years ago I went out and scored another one, this time a spruce top flat back version. Got it for $100 out of the back room of a local music store. It was not about to win any beauty contests but it was structurally sound and a perfect player. It did not have as big a voice as my first D-25 but just an all round nice sounding guitar. I ended up giving it to a friend who although a fine player was a bit down on his luck and did not have a guitar. I am not sure anybody would have appreciated that guitar more than him. So now I am keeping my eye out for #3. I know it is out there somewhere - we just have to stumble across one another.

Welcome! You pretty much stole those Guilds. I've never played a D-25 but my first good guitar was a Guild D-35 I bought new in something like 1994. A couple of years ago I gave it to my adult son who has always appreciated it and used it for his first guitar lessons (from me) when he was a kid. I got to missing it so much that last year I bought it's younger brother from another forum member. Now we both have one and they both sound wonderful. In terms of factory made guitars, I've never played anything that sounded quite as sweet and also had the ability to crank out the volume of a good older Guild D-35. You are indeed a lucky guy!

This is a 70's D-35S (Sunburst) that was given to me by an old friend who hadn't played in years. I own several nice guitars but this is one the best strummers - pretty too!
