What sort of style is this?
Hey all,
Love this kids music, but I always wonder what kind of 'style' it actually is and also, how I could learn/ write a piece like this! I know there is definitely finger style in some of the pieces, but I am unsure what else. Thanks http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Amp1T3NYtPo http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZykCgBfNyes http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wRaaQD51cyQ |

I have heard it called "percussive fingerstyle." Sort of Michael Hedges and Don Ross taken to the extreme.

It seems to be gaining steadily in popularity, the name I know it by is tapping:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tapping Andy McKee has found a good niche with this style, plenty of his stuff on Youtube.

I would say that tapping is a technique that is utilized in percussive fingerstyle.
Gabriela of Rodrigo y Gabriela has a series of lessons on youtube. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oMNZz18VZik http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AfFt0R_-IEE She is an amazing player. The duo is awesome, but it is Gabriela's rhythm playing that really carries the duo. If you do a youtube search for percussive fingerstyle and get more intro lessons. None of this is lap style, though. |
