I've also heard good things about Thomastik-Infeld strings made in Austria

Anyone here use 80/20's on your 12 stringers? On my 6 string guitars they are easier on my finger tips, but never tried them on a 12.

EB
Ernie Ball earthwood lights have been my go-to for more than a decade.
They're 9-46, and give a nice, soft feel that's easy on the hands, bright, and quite punchy, even at 1/2 step down tuning. I find them wonderfully easy tension on the instrument as well. I recently swapped my lovely Takamine ef 381s 12 string for one of these newer Gibson J45-12's, and I'm back in 12 string heaven! |

Elixir nano lights for me. I don't like changing the strings.

Same here. My 12 is the only one of four guitars I use Elixirs on.

Ditto on the Elixers. They sound great on my d12-28 and last a long time,

Wow, I haven't been lurking here much lately but when I come back there's a thread that's right up my alley! No surprise that this thread has attracted some with user names familiar to me. So some of you guys have seen this before but for those who haven't....

Are most people generally using 10-47's for standard tuning ?
I've recently got an Epiphone IBG Hummingbird and I believe 10-47 is what it ships with, but it seems to be missing some low end. I've only had it a couple days though, so I'm probably being a little unfair in comparing it to a 20+ year old jumbo.

Elixir Nano PB's for me too. Very durable and they play true.

There are remarkably few choices of standard 12 string sets of this size. Martin calls this gauge "light" (I agree) D'addario calls their PB EJ37 set - Medium tops/heavy bottoms - goodness knows why.

Should I get a pack of medium gauge if I want to play in lower tunings (1-2 steps down)? Or would it be too much strain in something like open C?

I use 54/30-12/12 tuned D-D on both my 12s. Specified differently by Martin (M190- lights) and D'addario (EJ37 - medium lights, heavy bottom) ??? I used to order really heavy gauge for a long scale (26.5" Baritone Del'Arte - something like 64/40-14/14. It wasn't that great.
