So I have to buy two more to be normal?

Because I can certainly do that! It would be nice to be normal for once in my life!

I have...more than 5...but they all do something specific and different and that's my story and I'm sticking to it.

This. It sometimes requires some creativity to justify a need for another instrument.

I like performing with dreadnoughts so it is only right that I ave one in rosewood (for solo work) and one in Mahogany for combo work, plus one spare (which has 'lectrics in it).
I also have one 12 fret jumbo (short scale) which I've been using at my club.

I also like to use 12 strings on stage, but one let me down many years ago so I have one and one spare.

Occasionally I play Dobro, mandolin, banjo, Weissenborn. and a National - I have only one of each.

I use my 000 for teaching and recording.

I really love 00 sized guitars so I have one (which my wife had built for me) -it lives in my office for working stuff out. I also have a recently acquired Eastman which is blingy and beautiful, plus a Waterloo WL12 which is great for bluesy stuff.

I only have one "0" model

One day I might find a way to justify having three archtops.

Plus an OM3 which I don't use and was bought from a friend to help him. I hope to sell it.

Nah, buy way more. Normal is boring after all.

I, at one time, owned 5 parlor guitars. I think that qualifies as psycho.
In my defense, one was a cedar/mango, one was a cedar/mahogany, a Sitka/EIR, one all mahogany, and the last one was all mahogany laminate.*

*Please see thread on how tone woods have no discernable difference in the sound of a guitar.

Best,
Jayne

If we assign 2/3 points to a 4 string bass, do we assign 3/4 value to 3/4 size guitars? What about jumbos and baritones? Shouldn't they get extra credit for being big?

Maybe we should use a multiplier to weight the values based on how much they're played. For example: A daily player might get an x1, an occasionally played guitar a x2, and the closet guitar a x3. This is intended to penalized the collector more than the player.

Then a value (purchase price) of each needs to be factored in to properly understand the "real" level of nutty-ness. After all, not all guitars are created equally.

I can see it now, this is going to get complicated! There might even be calls for regulation. Just what is the carbon footprint of making a guitar anyway? And then there's the perception of being a member of the Bourgeoisie, even without neccesarily owning a Bourgeois!

Default 14

I've been good at keeping it at 14 so far. My last two acquisitions have been 1) a sale and a purchase and 2) a trade. I started freaking out a little bit at 7 but then decided to go with it. 14 seems like a good number to me for some reason.
