We had a good thread about the BTO sheet a few weeks ago. What we discovered was that Taylor's BTO was intended not for customers, but for dealer sales staff. It's not a closely regarded secret or anything, but honoring the manufacturer's wishes, we decided not to post the BTO sheet or a link to it here. What people do privately, of course...

I don't know why this would not be listed by Taylor for all to see.
Why the big secret?
If the dealers want to make money on the guitar, list the MSR price just like they do with guitars.
My dealer does not have the bto list. I don't know how to get one.
Therefore I cannot consider a bto guitar!

gimble,

If your dealer is a Taylor authorized dealer then Taylor should be able to get them a copy. Why wouldn't they want to do this? Taylor customer service is great, I can't see any reason they wouldn't service their dealers just as well.

Unless your dealer just doesn't want the perceived "hassle" of going through the BTO process -- they may just have told you what they did so that they wouldn't have to deal with it. I don't know your dealer but I have known some like this.

Why not call Jim @ Guitar Rodeo and consider any BTO you might want?

I used to live in Indialantic, right near Hoover.
As for dealers, they def can do a BTO. It makes financial sense for them to do so.

This might sound stupid but I don't even know how the BTO works?
If I want say a Dread body with Maple sides and back with an Adirondack spruce top, are the prices for these woods listed? Or are different body styles listed by price, say I wanted the above with a GS body, could I A-B the price against a Dread? Can I check the Maple vs Cocobolo?

MPO is that Taylor should promote the BTO, not keep it a mystery.
Or at least list it on the website for real Taylor lovers to consider.

I'll send you a PM gimble, but here are the basic answers to those questions:
  • The BTO list gives prices for wood choices on tops and back/sides.
  • All the body styles are the same base price, so a maple/adirondack guitar would cost the same in any body style (depending on any other options you add to it...cutaway, wood binding, etc.)
  • Since you have optional pricing for different wood types, you can check the price of both.

If anyone would like to request my 'automated' BTO spreadsheet (or PDF if preferred), I'd be very happy to oblige. Just click on the link in my signature.
