I feel that consistency is not an issue with SC, Collings, or high-end Martin. It could be an issue with Martin standard series.

It's just a personal thing. Collings sound great and I admire their build quality, but a top-notch Santa Cruz has a "voice" that feels almost human to me, like a great singer. When I play one that has that "vocal" quality, I'm moved in a way that so far no Collings has come close to.
My favorite SCs are very often 100% stock, no fancy wood upgrades. They're often the least expensive models, too. I'm really impressed with what comes out of that shop.

Neither. My vote's firmly with Bourgeois.

Like preaching to the choir here,
As previously stated and I wholeheartedly agree, Both Santa Cruz and Collings build wonderful guitars, selection is a matter of personal preference matched to individual guitar. That being said, I had to vote Santa Cruz In my personal herd the score is Santa Cruz (2) Collings (0) Disclaimer: I reserve the right to change the score at any time |

Interesting that Santa Cruz is stretching out in a lead here.
My guess looking at sales online and dealerships carrying the brands that actual sales are very different from these poll results. Collings seems to far outsell Santa Cruz from what I see. I've owned both, so I either don't have a dog in this fight or have bet on both dogs. |

Collings? Never heard of 'em. IMHO, when you get to guitars of the quality of Collings, Santa Cruz, Bourgeois, Huss & Dalton, or high end Martins, etc. it's the old different but not better argument. It's pure preference. And in a lot of cases it's, this is what I bought so I like it better than anything else.

Not trying to disagree... but Martin's (and Taylors) all go through the same production process regardless of series. It is simply the better looking woods and higher end appointments that differentiate. I've played some pretty great standard series Martins and some very average high end Martins. I've also played some great sounding higher end Martin's and some very average sounding lower end Martins.

For me it's a tie. I have 3 of each at the moment, but here's the thing. It is my completely unscientific and very subjective opinion that Collings does better with Martin-type guitars (D2H and CW), whereas Santa Cruz does better with Gibson-type guitars (Vintage Jumbo and Vintage Southerner). As I'm really into my Santa Cruz Gibsonesque models right now, I gave the nod to Santa Cruz in the poll (plus, I really enjoy my OM/PW when I need a change). Richard is a super nice guy, too--very helpful.
But really, you can't go wrong with either one.

You can't go wrong with either. I two Collings and one SC. Two totally different guitar makers. The guy that voices the tops at SC is among the best from what I understand. Also, I have read where the consistency of SC guitars is right up there with Collings. I agree. My 34-d is flawless. With all of that being said, if I had to pick one guitar right now, it would be my Collings SJ. It's just the best all around guitar I own. I absolutely love it.

Being biased, I voted Collings since I have two of them. The build & sound quality is top notch, as are the appointments/cosmetics. I've not heard another guitar project like a Collings does...& w/ clarity all the way up the neck. Being a Martin fan for so many years, it took a while for me to break the mold into their modern sound. But once you do, you can see/hear what makes Colling's standout. The Santa Cruz & Bourgeois acoustics have all been exclt as well. I would still love to own a SC OM. Had I the money at the time, I prolly would have gone w/ one of the Bourgeois or Merrill's brazilian OM's I played. All these companies are making great acoustics these days...Martin included! Just pick your flavor. I hope it continues...

Collings for some styles and SCGC for others. I'd also consider Bourgeois (would probably take a Bourg Signature OM over either of the other two's standard OMs) in the same category as well as Huss and Dalton and they also have their particular models that are stand outs.

I own a SC and have played many Colling's. I'm just not sure how you would compare the sounds of these 2 totally different guitars. Both fine guitars. SCGC having an older, more traditional sound and the Colling's having a newer sound. So, this said I'm totally sure what we are voting on.
