Nut width and the Perfect Guitar
I've been on a hunt for a steel bodied resonator and like all enthusiasts on the hunt I came across National Guitars. Wow do these things sound incredible, but I don't feel I got the everything I could have gotten from the guitar because the necks width 1.825 / 1 13/16th was affecting my playability enough to turn me off a bit. After switching from a 2 inch or 1.8 inch neck (classical and Seagull) down to 1 3/4 I will never go back for as much tone as they might add.
Come to find out National guitars only offer their guitars in the "tradition" nut width, which I find very limiting. I know the chunky neck has a part in the distinct sound of the instrument, but I find it hard when one major aspect of a guitar can ruin what would have been a perfect guitar(in my eyes). So now I might have to buy something duh duh duhhhhhh…… foreign!!!! Haha no big deal just a bigger pain to sort through the junk. Any recommendations on a steel bodied resonator with a 1 3/4 neck? Best I've found is the Republic Resolian. Perfect body size, lighter guitar, fine tuned in the U.S, and a much more manageable 1 7/8 neck. Any feedback would be awesome |

You realize that 1 7/8 is wider than 1 13/16, right?

I have only played one, but the Gretsch resos are 1.75" and I quite like the clips.

If you can find a good tech or a willing luthier you could always have the neck shaved.

I found Mule guitars and in case anyone is on the search they have 1 3/4 necks with a standard profile due to the builder working at Huss & Dalton. Beautiful guitars and if they didn't weigh 9 lbs I'd jump on the wait list.
Any other American made options? |
