Default New to Forum Taylor 810 CE

I'm new to the forum and have just purchased a 2006 Taylor 810 CE. Not a scratch, ding or blemish on it. My Luthier said it was in perfect condition. My question is: The tuners are gold but the knobs (buttons) on the tuner are black. Is this standard or is this on the LTD version? Are they made of ebony?
Thanks,

JJ

2006 800 series Taylors had Ebonoid (plastic) tuners. They changed them to gold (metal) tuners in 2007 because many broke and the warranty costs wasn't worth it.

JJ, Welcome to the AGF. Congrats on the 810ce! Is this an upgrade to something else you've been playing?

My condolences to your wallet since you joined this forum. If you are starting with that guitar it is only going to get worse.

There are all sorts of fun things you can do to custom-ornament your guitar. I put ebony buttons on my gold-tuner Taylors and chrome-tuner 12-string; and on my 414ce (2013 Ltd.), because it's Indian Rosewood instead of ovangkol I put rosewood buttons on the tuners. You can also buy custom-made truss rod covers. I got mine from Capt. Bill (not sure if he's still on the AGF or in business). Then there are replacement saddles and bridge pins of natural materials from Bob Colosi (guitarsaddles.com).

Ha, ha... Yep. I actually got a good deal (under 2k). It was the wife that was the problem. Guess she gets a new sewing machine.....
