Default Flatiron 1N

Hey gents,

I already own a Mandolin, and recently sold my Big Muddy.

And I saw a reverb listing from a Midwest store of a used Flatiron 1N. I took a chance, bought it unplayed, and this 1983 pristine mandolin is in my possession.

It’s a very very loud mandolin! And it’s clear, and warm. A very pretty sound indeed. Anyways, my oldest son has his thirtieth birthday in a few days, and I think he is going to love this.

Looks great - I've often wished I bought one 40 years ago.

Congrats! I played a Flatiron for many years. They’re solid instruments with a nice thump.

Congrats a nice mandolin. I also have a Flatiron A model and although I own a few high end Gibsons I really like the Flatiron and play it often!

Here it is (lower right) with my Gibson A5G and I like it just as much as the Gibson.

Thanks gents. One of these days down the road I am sure a Gibby will make its way to me… but I think my kid is gonna dig this. He is an electric player but he dabbles in all.

My son’s skill and ear blows mine away. He has a few serious electrics, a few acoustic guitars I’d given him, and some off the wall instruments, including guitars and basses with extra strings.

I have to think a mandolin fits in there. And he appreciates “old” things with history. I’ll let you know after the weekend! Today is his birthday and we are headed off to see him later.

That's great Sal, I can't wait to hear about his reaction to this gift!

Never played one, but they're beloved in Mandoland. Your kid's gonna have a blast with it.
