1990 Gibson J45
Does anyone have any experience with Gibson J45s built in 1990?
This was right after the factory moved to Bozeman. |

That early in Gibson Bozeman builds. It should be a nice guitar. When you look at the appointments It should have all the appointments of the TV J45. Does yours have the gold decal with the banner? Most of those did. Fullerplast was used for a short time as well causing lots of checking

Bozman did not go into full operation until 1991. The early guitars, as noted, sported a Fullerplast finish which is what the Flatiron plant was set up to shoot. They were also built with a "paddle" neck joint. Depending on who you talk to should the neck require work this was either no problem or a royal pain in the butt. Neither of these features though would be a deal killer for me.

After a little research online I heard of the fullerplast finish and paddle neck joints. Thanks for bringing them up again.

I'm looking at replacing my current J45 with one from 1990 (birth year guitar). Are the neck shapes consistent?

No necks are not consistent. Your birth year guitar might not be what you are expecting. Your Current J45 is probably better. I have a 2022. Its just fine. .
