Desperado - by the Eagles

I've just now finished an arrangement of Desperado by the Eagles.

It sounds like they are doing it in the key of G.

For my solo acoustic instrumental of it the fingering works out better for me in the key of C.

Then if I capo at 2nd position it puts it in my vocal range and I can just reach the highest instrumental notes around the 12th fret.

My simple arrangement uses C F G AM EM DM.
I may try to embellish it later but these basic chords seem to work pretty good.

What do you think ? How do you play it ?....any suggestions?

Here's the chord chart I figured out a few years ago and it's served me pretty well. I do the piano intro with some partial chords before going into the strummin' and singin'. I keep it in the key of C.

It's an image, not text. You can print out the image by saving it to disk and then opening it with the appropriate image viewer.

Hi Larry…
I think variety is cool. I’ve always played it in G but with no instrumental aspect, so I’ve been messing around and have decided I like doing it with an Esus capo in key of D relative to the capo (sounds in E) and still singing part of it and playing instrumentally too...the Esus capo brings a nice touch to it.

I can't explain why, but I am really enjoying playing this with an instrumental
break...its such an emotional song...

I'm not familiar with an ESUS capo (you are at a level much higher than me)

I'd say I'm an advanced beginner aspiring to be a beginning intermediate player.

The way I got started on this song - the phrase 'desperado' came to mind
and I was in a C chord and did a slide on the 2nd string d note up to the
e note and back and then down to the C note and played vibrato on that
high C note while holding the C chord ( I can do it on my classical -
I'm not sure it would work on steel) - that's the DES-PER-RA-DO

That sounded good so I began to work out the rest of the song....
after listening to it on youtube to get the melody set in mind.

Then I worked out the chords and the positions on the neck to follow the melody. I got the basic chords - and now with ' a little help from my friends '
I'm working on the details

I'm pretty much doing it 'by ear' with some knowledge of music theory
at this point - I'm beginning to learn to read TAB -

OK, since you're learning to read tablature -- and it's probably my favorite Eagles song as well -- I figured out the intro & outro and put it into tablature form. If there's any mistakes, let me know.

First I created it in Word as a document. Then I printed out a hard copy. Next I scanned the print out, but as a photo rather than a document. That allowed me to save it as a .jpg file.

Next I signed up at photobucket.com per forum's suggestion. For as few images as I'm going to be uploading, it's free. Copy the address of where the photo is stored. Using the forum's picture button, paste address into field that pops up and it shows up on your post.

I have WORD, - don't have a scanner - but could take a pic with my digital camera.
So now I need to sign up for photobucket -
and then start using the picture button.

I take it you have some sort of 'template' with TAB lines stored in WORD
and then " mod / save as " when you do something new like the tab you made for me.
