Default Tried this D-28 1931 Authentic yesterday

It had to be one of the nicest guitars I've played in a long time. Martin hit a home run with this one folks. Incredible. It was a good thing I had to bolt for a sound check. One more minute and I might have put this one in the trunk of my van.

Yep, the 12 fret '31s are beasts, they should have a volume control..

Martin has hit a home run with the Authentics, pretty good dread selection, now we need some more small bodies, bring on the OM-28 Authentic, and maybe an 00-28VS Authentic......

gone already! this is the Authentic that I originally set my sights on. just didn't want to give up my 17 year old Collings DS2H. They would have made a redundant pair and at my age, smaller guitars are beginning to feel more comfortable.

+1...love that Rich; "volume control"! ...and I totally agree with you Rich & Toby. I just got a D18 as you know and am enamored with it, however, the '31 D28 is my dream girl and the OM-18A I've spent time with was off the chain lightweight, responsive and dripping with the tones I enjoy.
Home run? more like GRAND SLAM! Way to go Martin on the A's and a darn good job on the newly voiced D18...the honeymoon continues!

eric ...ok Toby I'm gonna photo bomb yer thread buddy! thanks bro for postin' some '31 A love!

Hi Toby,

I played one of these recently and I, too, was very impressed. I thought I would have trouble with the fat neck and 1 7/8" nut width, but I really didn't notice these as problems. I also thought it would be too bass-heavy, but it wasn't. It just sounded great!

Hi Glenn,

I was surprised at first by the wide nut width but the neck was very comfortable. The sound was astounding. Now... if they could only replicate what I heard on a 14 fret model....

They'd need to start with a larger body.

Have you had a chance to play the D-28A 1937 yet?

I played the 37' and 31' side by side in the shop and they are very different tonally. I think what Toby "needs" is a custom 14-fret with the 12-Fret body.

No, not yet. I'd love to compare the two side by side. Tempting, as that D-28A has the 1 3/4" nut that I love.

I was given the chance to play a '31 and it's the first Dreadnought I ever considered owning. My arthritic shoulders don't like dreds but that Authentic 12-fret made me think it might be worth a try.

Then I go to play the 000-28K Authentic in the same shop. Oh my goodness!

As for an Authentic 00-28VS…I will be in very serious trouble if they bring out one of those. (smile)

I was hoping for an Authentic late twenties, 00-28 myself but I find the 00-28VS to be quite amazing and find it hard to believe it could be improved upon very much. The mouse that roars.

Why would you want to spoil a perfect design....like Martin did when they introduced the 14 fret squished down body?

Same experience - I took my 2007 DS2h along to compare (or trade) and they offered me more in trade than I paid for it - but when push came to shove - I couldn't bear to part with my Collings!
