If I hear it on the radio I look for something else because I'm usually in the car and am afraid to nod off.

BTW, that particular station plays waaaay too much Pink Floyd.

Regardless, in the context of the album I find that it's best led with "The Battle of Evermore." That combination - along with a blacklit room and some sandalwood incense burning - makes for ethereal experience. As for playing it, it's strictly what I call a "campfire" song.

Most overrated song ever in my opinion. I didn't like it when I was ten and I still don't.

Interestingly, in the last 10 years or so of my countless visits to GC and other guitar stores I have NEVER heard anyone play "Stairway to Heaven"!

I might just start playing it!

It's a total myth. I mean the song is like 20 minutes long ?..ok...it seems like it...with numerous parts. Which part do you play? The intro? The lead part?

I just learned the Lars Peterson version, it took me forever to find the tab. The book is not written in English.

I liked it when it first came out but usually change the channel when I hear it come on the radio these days. Just got tired of it. That may be why I've never learned to play it.

However, I LOVE this version of it by Heart:

Yes, a solid effort. I seem to recall a Tiny Tim version that is also a competitive contender for 'the one'.

I do play this at open mikes, but as "Stairway to Gilligan's Island". I try to look very serious as I play the long intro. I have made more than one person snorf their beer when I start singing "Just sit right back and you'll hear a tale...."
