Default So, What Do You Do When Someone Yells "Freebird?"

Assuming, of course you don't play it. I don't, but I did, a gazillion times, played the slide part (I hate to play slide) and I don't want to do it again. I tell them that. I also tell them that if Lynard Skynard themselves jumped up on stage with me I wouldn't play it.

Of course it's just some drunk being funny, but you just can't ignore it. I usually, if it's the right crowd, also do an impromptu version of "Bad Girlfriend". That usually ends the Freebird stuff.

I went to Carnegie Hall to hear the Rite of Spring by Stravinsky. Afterward everyone was clapping and yelling Bravo! I couldn't help myself so I yelled out Free Bird! a couple of times. Some young guy a couple of rows below me turned around an smiled...he was the only one who got it.

grab a pair of dull pruning shears, and perform an emergency orchidectomy. Gotta throw some chlorine in the gene pool from time-to-time.

I bust them out in the mic (jokingly of course, but I'm really serious) and put them on "request ration". It ends up being hilarious and everyone laughs it off considering I then ask everyone else for requests.

Say you don't know all the words and ask them to come up and sing it while you accompany them.

Turn it around and act like they are asking to play it. Like when Prince Humperdink says "Surrender!" And Westly replies: "You mean you wish to surrender to me? Very well, I accept."
