Default Taylor GS7

Have an opportunity to buy a GS7 for xxxx.

No es

perfect shape except a 1.5 inch finish crack in the back middle.

How big of a deal is it if it is not in the wood, just the finish?

Good price, but I would carefully inspect inside for structural probs, such as loosened bracing.. that finish crack could be a sign of previous swelling (over humidification), but not necessarily.
Hard question to address without seeing the crack.

Good luck.. sounds like it could be a nice deal.

The crack won't effect the sound, but like the last guy said, you have to ask why a finish crack in an otherwise perfect guitar - is there other damage that is less apparent? Also, are you sure it's just in the finish (many guitar cracks are worse than advertised) This is why a crack is pretty much the kiss of death on resale value of an instrument. You have to ask yourself if it is really worth it for about $200 savings? For me that's not a good deal, but that's your call.

I agree. If you have the opportunity, get a second opinion from a local guitar shop. If not, make the guy a offer representing your worst reasonable fears about the guitar (maybe it's more than a surface crack and you'd need to get it fixed...factor in that cost, plus anything else..)). Offer him *that* amount.
