Default New member here - fun question for you all:

Hi everyone. So glad to have joined this forum - I've been watching videos of you all day - so much talent here - this is going to be a blast!!!!

So..... in anticipation of my new guitar arriving Monday, I'm staring at my old beater I've had for 20+ years. A Fender Gemini II made in Korea - that actually sounds pretty good, and I'm remembering all of the fun I've had with that guitar. It's quite often it makes an appearance at the end of parties in my neighborhoos.

So here's my question: What song (or songs) has been the most fun to play at a party?

For me there are more than one:
Blister in the Sun by the Violent Femmes
Laid by James
Gin n' Juice by Snoop Dog (You read that correctly) - I do an acoustic version of the version done by The Gourds - so much fun!!!!

Can't wait to hear from you all on this - great to be part of the forum - Happy Holidays!

I'm much more old school. At open mics and the lot, I like doing old Dylan and CSN stuff. Makes the younger set ask if they're originals.

Just to show how tragically unhip I am, I don't think I've ever heard a single song by any of these artistes.

Do I need to get out more?

Not unhip - just into different things.....

We have a lot of fun playing older stuff too - Mellencamp / Zeppelin / Hendrix / The Band / Kinks / Who / Beatles....

I tend to stick the "classics". Dylan- Knockin' on Heaven's Door, Harrison- My Sweet Lord, Eagles - many and, of course, anything by Jimmy Buffet.

Welcome and ... Wow. You have a very different repertoire than many of use here. Ever think about posting one or two of those on Youtube? I'd love to hear what they sound like.

Buck, I do remember that commercial - and successfully removed it from my memory, until now!!!! LOL

Gray - yes, my repetoire is usually a bit out there. I'm a big fan of alternative music and am always trying to discover new music. I'll be writing another post about newer acoustic music that's emerging that many don't know about. There's some great stuff out there, and yes, I'll eventually post some youtube videos. I'm far from a great player, but I love having fun and involving others.

For me Roy Orbison's "Pretty Woman" has been the best party song I've ever played. Oh how the ladies love that one!

By the way I'm a big fan of The Gourds- great band

Same here. And all these years, I thought I had only been avoiding Snoop Dog as an actor without knowing I was also avoiding him as a musician!

Welcome to the forum!

First song that comes to mind is Brown Eyed Girl (Morrison). Another one is The Gambler (Rodgers) but nobody can remember anything past the first refrain ... including me. Piano Man (Joel) which always makes me laugh in my head as I play it on guitar.
