New (to me) 310 CE
I like my D-28. Got some bark and bite and clarity to it.
I like my Larrivee's. Warm, round, and luscious sound. But...... I wondered about a Taylor. I scored a DEAD mint 310 CE tonight. 2000 model, Fishman sound system, origianl owner, hang tags, warranty card, OHSC, and dead mint. Silly low price. I brought it home, restrung it, and HOLY CRAP! This thing is a monster (to me). I had to quit playing it, my hands are tired. I didn't want to, but I had to take a break. I'll go back in a little while. Don't care if I get any sleep tonight, this guitar and I are going to spend some serious time together. I may not know much about guitars but I know I like this one. Wow. |

Cool! You've hit on a great deal - which is always a blast and discovered another tone option.
Sapele is a tone wood that keeps speaking to me as a GA3 owner. The deepest darkest bassy Taylor I ever came across was a well played-in 10 yr plus 310. My model has the "it" factor as well. I also suggest installing a bone Bob Colosi saddle and bridge pins for additional sustain and note balance. Sounds like you have a keeper. Enjoy! |

I think sapele and ovankol are often discounted as tonewoods since they aren't spelled mahogany, maple or rosewood.
I had a 314, then a 410ce for years and now play a 315ce, (jumbo), that I'll put up against any guitar for its ability to be played in any style and with as much emotion as you can coax out of any guitar. I love the tone of sapele.

310
Funny, I was in guitar center today playing an 814ce which was very nice. Guy working there was giving me the everyone likes that guitar line which was probably true. Anyhow as I'm sitting there strumming that 814 I had the honest realization that it had absolutely nothing on my 310. There is something about the 300 series and it is sapele. Only reason I was playing that 814ce was bc I'm looking for a GA. Congrats on finding a great guitar.
