Listen to some Pat Metheny
I know many of you already enjoy his music. Just thought I would encourage the unfamiliar to check him out on You Tube. He has a vast range of music, but I generally always hear something special in his compositions. A timeless, gentleness, and inspirational sound. The way he plays acoustic is something I really enjoy. But he also plays an interesting variety of unique, even bizarre guitars. Not limited to one particular sound.
The guy is a true genius. His music appeals to people all over the world. When you get some free time one evening, sit down and relax. Surf around on You Tube and listen to a bunch of his compositions. Read the viewer responses. Pretty much incredible what he does to peoples' emotions. |

One Quiet Night is a simple solo baritone guitar release and is one of my favorite acoustic albums. Read details of Methey's discovery and production of it here: http://www.patmetheny.com/features/o...nernotes.shtml

I still have a copy of Metheny's Secret Story from 1992 or so... Great stuff.
I had a copy of that Guitar Player album that was put out around then as well with a couple of cuts from Larry Coryell... Also amazing. He did an instrumental of Autumn In New York complete with a variety of sound effects... |

He's very musical and very gifted. His acoustic musis on his score for the movie "A Map of the World" is gorgeous. "Beyond the Missouri Sky" with Charile Haden is beautiful.

I only really know his playing though Joni Mitchell's "Shadows & Light" double live album from 1980. It's some of the most beautiful guitar I have ever heard. Very highly recommended listen. Other band members on the album are Lyle Mays, Jaco Pastorius, Michael Brecker & Don Alias so it's about as good a level of musianship as you'll ever hear.
Here's Pat's solo from the concert: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YcYgfoBEicQ

I am a pat metheny freak. I even own "zero tolerance" (which was just a flipped bird to dgc, really, as far as "free jazz" pat "song x" is much, much better.)
A creative musician who can make very pretty sounds or jarring, avant garde sounds...you can't say that about too many musicians... |
