As nice as Audens are, bear in mind they are made in China, which may or may not influence your decision to buy one, certainly at the not inconsiderable price they charge for them.

Jamie Swannell are getting a good reputation on the uk, with a few pro players toting them at the moment.

Max Spohn, who builds in Barvaria, built me a magnificient OM in Moon Spruce over Euro Maple. An extraordinary instrument which has helped and inspired me to up my game. Interesting how a guitar can do that.

A few luthiers / custom builders from Finland, in no particular order:

There's a couple of threads on Olav Loef guitars in the Custom Shop forum here https://www.loefguitars.fi/
https://www.ajl-guitars.com/ is pretty much a Gypsy Jazz and Archtop guy
Ari-Pekka Paasonen has been around a while: https://jasesoi.fi/en/collection/ste...ing-guitars-2/
... as well as Juha Lottonen https://lottonen.com/
I think Anders Liljeström doesn't build all that many guitars but they are always somehow special https://liljestromguitars.fi/Galleria/
Janne Koskela: https://www.timbretones.com/guitars Also makes pretty cool microphones.

Hi Charlie, I have a Jiri Lebeda F5 Premium mandolin from 2005. Sadly, I don't think that Jiri is building any more. I believe that he closed the business and moved away back in 2012.

Now then Mr. Moustache, if you ever decide to downsize your collection and part with the Lebeda, please feel free to get in touch...

Lots of great builders in the UK already listed (I have Lowden's, know Richard Osbourne's workshop) but would add Phil Davidson... he's built me fabulous mando's, banjos and tenor guitars and his 6-strings are very nice too. Great bloke to deal with ...

Lakewood! Absolutely fabulous instruments. Any model can be custom altered any way you want from their website 3D modeling program. I have a 1995 custom ordered D14 and it’s a wonderful instrument. If you can find one, I encourage you to make the effort to play it. You won’t be disappointed.

Another vote for Blazer and Henkes, especially if you're after a classic Martin type of guitar. No longer taking new order, but used ones come up on the aftermarket. Here's a really engaging article about their build philosophy:

I've known Phil for some years, and was admiring an open back banjo of his just yesterday. Sadly he says that he's retired (which probably means he only does stuff he really want to do!)

Absolutely right I suspect... ask him to carve something mando-ish and he'll be up for it!
