Which guitar do you regret buying?
I figured the opposite of a recent thread would be interesting.
Mine is my Taylor GS8. Don't get me wrong, it sounds great, but I would have been better off with a smaller bodied guitar. It's not one of my usual "goto" guitars when I'm in the mood to play, but it does record nicely.

2003 Taylor 410ce.
All my fault... I convinced myself that "ce" was what I wanted and traded a sweet 1st-year '52 RI Tele and a bunch of other "wish I had it back" gear to get the Taylor. Of course, I have no real need to either "C" or "E." Sure enough, sold the Taylor a few months later to raise funds for an HD-28 that I still have. Not Taylor's fault... fine guitar, just a purchase/ trade that I didn't think through. |

More than just one actually...... Had a Recording King RDC57 dread that was a real dud tonally (very overbraced and perhaps overdone on the Poly finish as well). I also had a Takamine EG523SC jumbo, simlar story on that one..... 2 "sight unseen" deals that didn't pan out. Fortunately I did pretty well in trading one for a better guitar and selling the other at a fairly minimal loss and replacing it with a much better guitar (that cost less than what I sold it for) as well.

None. I only buy guitars after I fall in love with them.

for electric I owned it would have to be an 02 Gibson LP Standard. Most expensive electric I had owned and worst playing one also. neck was wacked twisted and pick ups sounded muddy. it was NEW when I bought it. I then owned a few korean made esp and a prs that totally blew it away for playability and tone.
acoustics would have to be a baby Taylor. Thing would not stay tuned decent and intonation sucked. then a Taylor 610ce because I liked the looks but I had a 810ce and really did not need two dreads. then probably a 07 composite acoustics GX performer. Sold a nice 814ce for it and after a period of time the novelty wore off and I finally delt with the playability issues. After I got my new 816ce it feels like I am home again

I don't really regret buying any of my guitars. Some of them haven't been out of their cases in years but they all served a purpose when I bought them. Some of them could probably go away and I wouldn't miss them but they aren't hurting anything so I don't put much effort into selling them off.

Taylor 814CE.
It's not the guitar's fault though. I changed, the guitar didn't. Taylor makes the best necks out of anyone in the whole industry. Bob Taylor is constantly innovating his designs, which is more than I can say about other luthiers. IMO, really good value guitars. However, I'll never buy another Taylor acoustic ever. HA. I plan on getting a T5 eventually though. |

Squier MA1 3/4 size for my daughter to learn on. Sounds lousy and now that she has picked up my Taylor, she doesn't want to play the Squier any more. So now I gotta buy her a decent guitar.

A Goodall. Now I generally have to spend the same or more to be impressed.

I bought a Taylor 814ce in 2005, at that time wasn't real familiar with the brand, went on reputation and bought on-line and obviously without playing first.
At that time in acoustic/electrics I had an 000C-Steve Miller and a DC Aura, and was experimenting with stage guitars. The 814ce lasted 3 weeks, shortest I have ever owned a guitar in 45 years of playing. It was a beautiful burst, excellent build, played like butter but I discovered the the modern voicing just isn't ehat my ears want to hear, and my Martins were all so much louder acoustically I learned a lesson "for my tastes". I sold it to a foreign collector who loves it, so it's just personal tastes. I'm a vintage voicing guy, to each his own.

bought a really nice Takamine an16 made in Japan all wood dread , rosewood back and sides , a great price with case 4 and 3/4s benjamins.
it was pretty and sounded as good as a dread gets, problem? the neck was not to my liking at all, too thick. I traded it with some cash for a Martin which I now regret selling I will get it right someday. Dave |

I bought a Guild Jumbo once on Ebay. Don't recall the model number. Drove from Tulsa to Ft. Worth Texas to pick it up in person rather than risk damage in shipping. Brought new strings and restrung it in motel room that night. HATED IT. Didn't like the tone or neck. Resold it within a month on Ebay. Still in occasional contact w/the new owner and he LOVES it.
Lesson learned. Play a guitar before buying it. |

An Ovation. I sit and play when I go into the nursing homes and the Ovations kept 'falling off my lap'!
