The problem is Peter, you are cutting holes in everything.. braces, sides... what is left? I should have used that Swiss spruce to boot. hehehe

Mr. Coyote, I can't think of a good reason not to have one. I can only think of good reasons to have one.
It really adds to what you hear, both volume and quality. I was really surprised how much of a difference it made. I was very skeptical before I tried it.
Dennis, the guy buying my sitka/bubinga guitar, played Tim McKnight's guitar that had one and decided instantly that he wanted one too. Ask him how he likes his.
Generally speaking, most people a skeptical of the soundport, until they play a guitar with one, then they are a big fan.
I'm building a Sitka/rosewood guitar for a friend. When he played Dennis's guitar last week, he also instantly decided that he wanted one.

You guys talking about me?

I'm really particular about holes in beautiful wood that doesn't belong. I'd never own another guitar with the barndoor electrics. It just isn't right. So when the idea of a soundport came along I thought I don't want a hole in the side of My guitar ....
Then at the gathering at SteveS house we were able to play Tim McKnights guitar and WOW... of course it wasn't just the soundport it was great sound coming out a soundport. It made me feel as a player more sensitive to the feel I was playing dynamically. I could really hear the guitar... I didn't need to listen to someone else play it to know how it sounded. Made up my mind right then.

When I was able to play the guitar Steve made I was really glad I did it. This guitar is intended to be my personal playing guitar. While playing in a guitar circle it was like I had my own monitor ... again helping me decide how hard I needed to play.

I don't regret it but there is that hole in the side....

Dennis

Exactly what I explained do Jim! Of course, a few more holes and we'll definately have to call this guitar the "termite Guitar"

I don't know anything about soundports. It makes sense from a players sound perspective, I guess. Anyway, keep posting pics this looks like it is going to be a real treasure!

Geez Peter, will you stop saying you told me so? I have a mom and a wife, an ex-wife, 3 daughters and a big sister, ugh. I hear that enough.

I guess I am wondering more than anything if we put the hole there what it will look like with all the wires from the K&K and the condenser mic? Maybe if we do a nice design that will help diffuse it.

Maybe we can have some ideas for a soundport.... I'm sure there are plenty of creative minds around here...

Default Sides are bent and we're moving on...

So now a guitar is starting to take shape.

Yeah, the idea of the camatillo is very exciting. I have never seen it before much less heard it, but everything I have read is very encouraging.

The Kinscherff bracing concept is what led me to drill holes on some of the back braces to reduce weight on some guitars to start with. However, I rather not brace the tops on my guitars that way. I agree it does look really nice but that is not often seen after the box is closed unless you use an inspection mirror. Besides, I dont like to remove mass at one shot...if so, one could pre-shape the braces before gluing them on( thats what factories do!) I like to brace it thick and then shave off material and listen for tonal changes as I remove/shape the braces. It would be extremely difficult to drill holes on the top after the braces have been glued on. I'm sure the Kinscherff bracing concept works great but I rather do mine another way...
